Hello, my name is Violet

I am a fourteen week old female Jack Russell Terrier puppy. I was brought to The Mayhew after being found abandoned.

I am now learning lots of good things, I’m getting the hang of toilet training quickly because I'm taken out to the garden every couple of hours and given lots of praise when I do my business out there. My carers say I am a little bundle of energy but I do calm down once I’ve had a good run around the garden. I have been microchipped and neutered, and I've just had my first vaccination, in a few weeks I can have my second vaccination and start going out and about socialising with other dogs, in the mean time my carers carry me outside so I can get used to strangers and learn about the big outdoors. I have learnt to sit for a treat, which I take very gently, and to come when called. I want to kiss everyone who comes into my cabin but my carers ignore me at first and only pay attention to me once I’m calm, so I’m learning quickly not to jump up and how to say ‘hello’ politely. Like any puppy I’m full of mischief. If I pick up something I shouldn't I will swap it for one of my favourite chews when my carers tells me to. My favourite time is when one of my carers sits in my cabin with me and we watch TV together. I am a real cuddle-bum but once it is time to go to sleep I settle down quietly in my bed. I love playing games with my toys and will happily play on my own but much prefer it when my carers join in. I was very mouthy at first but as everyone here gives a loud yelp when I nipped, I'm learning to just give puppy licks and kisses. I know I still have things to learn but I am a very smart girl so it won’t take me very long to perfect my doggy manners.

I am looking for a new home with someone who will make sure I get two gentle, thirty minute, off lead socialisation outings per day whilst I'm still young, building up to a minimum of one to two hours of off lead exercise daily once I'm fully grown. My new guardians will be at home for most of the day, will have owned dogs before and will enrol me in training classes. I can live with another dog providing they have been well trained, are calm and will be a good role model for me. Due to my young age and training needs any children in my new home will need to be at least seven years of age and upwards. My new guardians will be taking on a fifteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly. My carers are very proud of me and say I will make a great family dog.
